THE MUPPETS feat. OK GO

23 Aug

OK Go presents their sweet cover of “The Muppet Show Theme Song” from the new Muppets: The Green Album.

As you might expect, I’m pretty excited about the big screen return of the muppets. This little video from OK GO starring some of our Muppet friends is a pretty tasty morsel, especially if you’ve ever seen any of the OK GO music videos featuring treadmills, dogs, unitards and other such meme-y-ness.

THE MUPPETS will hit theaters Nov 23rd, 2011. (Kermit the Frog voice: Yayyyyyyy!!!!!)

Jim Henson on Iowa Public Television

14 Sep

Jim Henson filmed this for public television in Iowa eight years before I was born . It’s a bit long, but a wonderfully rare look at Jim’s naturally gentle vibe when he’s not hiding behind a puppet. Plus, it’s hard not to love a guy who can rock a burgundy velvet jumpsuit and doesn’t seem the vaguest bit creepy.

NUGGETS OF GLORY

8 Jul

To those of you looking for PART II of my LA FILM FEST MEMOIR, know that’s it’s on the way and every bit as epic and nerdy  as you would expect it be.

In the meantime, I thought I would round-up some of my favorite recent videos I’ve come across in the past few weeks from other very clever folks. You know, for entertainment value. You may have caught some of these making the rounds this month. I’ll call this new blog feature NUGGETS OF GLORY.

What I love about these three videos is they each prove (in wildly different ways) that the coolest and most creative ideas are often born from finding a truly unique approach to material people are already familiar with. In an age of endless mash-ups (ahem, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter) here we have other well worn tropes getting an awesome make-over with little more than DIY sweat & inspiration. Enjoy!

CARDBOARD WARFARE

Live from Planet Koosbane

26 Mar

Dear readers, a treat from Dr. Reid’s vault. An absolute classic from The Muppet Show, Kermit the frog reporting live from the Planet Koosbane. Sadly, something tells me this clip would be too sexually explosive to air in a children’s program these days. Double sadly, this was actually how I learned about the bird’s and the bees, which would explain an awful lot.
